The theoretical basis and corrective way of orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment mainly uses various orthodontic devices to adjust the coordination between facial bones, teeth, and maxillofacial nerves and muscles, that is, between upper and lower jaws, between upper and lower teeth, and between teeth and jaws. The abnormal relationship between the nerves and muscles that connect them, the ultimate goal of correction is to achieve the balance, stability and beauty of the oral and jaw system. The correction of malocclusion deformity mainly relies on the use of appliances inside or outside the oral cavity to apply appropriate "biological force" to the teeth, alveolar bone and jawbone to cause physiological movement, thereby correcting malocclusion )deformity.

1. The plasticity of the jaw: the jaw, especially the alveolar bone, is one of the most active parts of the human skeleton. The reconstruction of the jaw includes two processes: proliferation and absorption. This is an important physiological feature of the jaw and the basis of orthodontic treatment. Therefore, the change of the jaw during the correction process is mainly the physiological process of the balance between osteoclast and osteogenesis.

2. The compression resistance of cementum, under the same orthodontic force condition, there is often only the absorption of alveolar bone, but there is no or only a small amount of cement absorption.

3. The stability of the environment within the periodontal ligament, after the orthodontic treatment is completed, the width of the periodontal, the connection between the periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone and cementum can be restored to normal.
